The Barbarelli Cardi is the perfect oversized cardi for seasonal transitions. This pattern uses worsted weight yarn. It is constructed in a long rectangle with a split for the neck. It’s then seamed at the sides and post stitches are used to create a ribbing for the short sleeves and around the collar/front and bottom.

Turn the cardi inside out for a completely different look! It’s reversible!

All sizes are included in one pattern.

This is an INTERMEDIATE level pattern.

Stitches used in this pattern:

ch = chain stitch
ehdc = extended half double crochet
fpehdc = front post double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
3L = third loop
YO = yarn over

Notes about this pattern:
• All directions are written in US Crochet Terms.
• Adjust hook size if necessary in order to meet gauge.
• You are creating a long rectangle, crocheting the garment vertically. You will split for the neck in the middle and then fold lengthwise and seam the sides, leaving armholes. Finally, you will add ribbing around the sleeves and the neck, front, and bottom edging.
• Ch 3 at the beginning of a row counts as ehdc.
• Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a st.
• When working sc rows (even numbered rows), you are working on the “wrong side” of the cardi. You will work the sc sts into the 3L of the ehdc sts. The 3L is in front of and below the front loop. This creates the faux knit sts on the other side (right side) of the cardi.
This piece requires blocking. If not blocked, the stitches slant toward one side which will give your piece a lopsided look.
