Beeton's Doily Lace
This reversible edging pattern is from 1870 Mrs. Beeton’s Guide to Embroidery, Crochet and Knitting, pp.180-182. Garter stitch edging were popular during Victorian times, likely because both sides looked good. This edging was intended to trim the doily I posted on Ravelry as “Beeton’s Doily II” but the width of it would make it difficult to curve around a doily without making a ruffle. This edging would be useful on a straight edge. There are 10 pattern rows with a cast-on of 21 stitches.
The swatch above is 3 inches at its widest but gauge is not important here.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, YO, k2tog, k3tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
43 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of this edging at gauge.
