Ooh, this pattern has a Gothic mood! It’s from Mrs. (Jane) Gaugain, published in the U.K. in 1841. The pattern has 16 rows and a repeat of 18 +2 stitches. I added the 2 stitches to control yarn overs on the very edge of some rows. This pattern requires your attention as 14 of the 16 rows are “fancy” rows. The remaining 2 rows are “purl across”.
Note that the adjacent vertical diamond columns aren’t identical. The center column in my swatch has a bend in the center and a big eyelet at the top that the columns beside it don’t have.
I tried straightening the diamonds vertically but the diamonds disappeared as a result. If you prefer well-behaved, geometric lace diamonds, check out “Pyrenees Pattern” in Barbara G. Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, p. 295.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog, SK2P and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
