This 1870 pattern from Isabella Beeton was intended to be the main pattern for a triangular shawl. “Beeton’s Shawl Netting” (my name for it) was the accent pattern. There are only 2 rows and one row is “purl across” except for the edge stitches. Any odd number of stitches will work.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, SSK and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

56 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 crochet thread will make 10 inches of a 31-stitch swatch at gauge.
