Braid and Eyelet Shawl
This pattern was revised in 2020 to include a chart of stitch counts for each increase row.
Here it is, another asymtrical shawl -- because the world can never have too many!
This one features a garter stitch and cable braid which alternates with sections of simple eyelet.
I used a crochet cast on to create an edge with chain stitches on all sides.
Each right side row also has an extra yarn over at the beginning which is dropped on the following wrong side row. I did this to create edge stitches which would block as much as necessary to really open up the eyelet sections.
The scallop effect occurs during blocking because of the difference in gauge between the 2 different stitch patterns used.
The sample took 475 yards of Shi Bui to work a total of 5 eyelet sections. The size can easily be adjusted by working fewer sections for a smaller version and more sections for a larger version. You will need to adjust yardge accordingly.
