Buds of May
I named this untitled insertion from a 1912 book and changed one decrease to SSK because it looked nicer. There are 19 stitches and 12 pattern rows. Every row is a “fancy” row but it’s so predictable, it’s not that hard. I kept the original SK2P double decrease to keep the center looking like a bud and not like a diamond or leaf. Feel free to use any double decrease there that pleases your eye.
The buds will face downwards as you knit this insertion but you could always flip the strip for upward-facing buds.
At the stated gauge, the strip is 2.25” wide but gauge is up to you.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, SSK, SK2P and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
31 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of Buds of May insertion at gauge.
