Butterick's Princess Feather
From 1902 Butterick’s Fancy and Practical Knitting, p.154, this pattern was used for 10-year-old girls’ mittens. There’s a multiple of 16 stitches and a 6-row repeat. Five of those rows are just knit and purl stitches. While I followed the original Edwardian pattern stitch by stitch, feel free to alter it to your taste: maybe adding extra purl stitches between the cables and feathers and/or working an 8-row repeat instead of 6.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, k3tog, cable and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
75 yards of La Paon “White Bird” #5 pearl cotton will make 10 inches of a 32-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
