Cable and Cords
This pattern was inspired by a 1912 Fleisher’s pattern for the back of an Edwardian woman’s mitten. I doubled the number of “cords” and narrowed the cable by 2 stitches. I also changed the k2togs on the right side of the strip to SSKs to mirror the left side. You can use this for anything, not just an afghan strip. There are 26 stitches and 10 pattern rows for this strip. I love using tweed yarn where I can but any block-able yarn will do. A solid-color yarn would make the “cords” stand out a bit more, I think.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, k2tog, SSK, M1, C6R (6-stitch cable) and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
50 yards of Wool of the Andes Tweed yarn will make 10 inches of this 26-stitch strip at gauge.
