Cable and Shell Strip
I converted this 1912 Fleisher’s glove pattern to an afghan strip and changed it from 9 rounds to 8 rows. I also added 2 selvage stitches for ease of sewing into an afghan. There are 36 stitches and 8 pattern rows. The first 4 rows are the same as the last 4 rows except for a cable in row 7. The wrong-side rows are simply knit and purl. The pattern is symmetrical about the center 2 stitches.
Feel free to substitute your favorite 8-stitch cable, if you like.
The strip is 6.75 inches wide blocked to gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, SK2P and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
95 yards of Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn will make 10 inches of this strip at gauge.
