Inspired by visits to the Chemistry department at the university where I used to work and the fascinating diagrams on colleagues’ office whiteboards, I created this choker or belt design to appeal to those who love a small relaxing project that is sure to be a conversation starter wherever you wear it. It’s an easy introduction to thread crochet for those who haven’t tried it and feel a little intimidated by small hooks and thin thread.
In this project you work only into chain spaces until each piece is big enough for you to hold it easily and stretch it a little to see the stitches well. By that time, you’ll feel more confident in where to insert the hook.
Crochet jewellery is fun to wear, inexpensive, and can be made to complement all of your outfits. In particular, the cuff is very flexible and can be worn at various points on the arm or leg or as a hair/head accessory if the ties are worked to a suitable length.
Sizes: one size with adjustable ties, designed with no ease in mind.
Tension: 4-round Hexagon Motif measures 4.5cm/1.75 in from side to side and 5cm/2 in from point to point. Joining tab measures just under 0.5cm/¼ in.
Working method: Hexagon motifs are worked in the round and finished with a join-as-you-go border. A cord is added at each end.
Finished measurements (see joining diagram))
a. Choker width (vertical drop at centre): 18.5cm/7¼”
b. Choker length (horizontal measurement of motif section at longest point, not including ties): 23cm/9”
c. Cuff width (vertical drop at centre): 18.5cm/4”
d. Cuff length (horizontal measurement of motif section at longest point, not including ties): 15cm/6”
e. Cord tie length: 30cm/12”

There is also a video explaining the layout and process for left and right handed crocheters followed by a demonstration of joining the top centre hexagon. You may prefer to use just one or any combination of these together.
This pattern uses UK terminology and a US terminology version is also available. Please be sure you are using a copy in your preferred terminology. I recommend that you read through the pattern before starting.
I sometimes add extra resources for my patterns, e.g. yarn substitutions, adaptations, styling suggestions or helpful video clips as updates on my original blog post for the release, so consider checking it out here: https://www.madewithloveandfibres.com/post/create-your-ow...
