Honestly, this no-name, no-image pattern from ca. 1875 The Lady’s Book of Knitting and Crochet, p.91, reminds me of hand-laced crab pots on fishing boats! It has a super-easy 4-stitch, 2-row repeat. It takes about 1 hour to knit 5 inches of a 26-stitch-wide swatch – quick to work!

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over, SSK, p2tog and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

40 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of a 26-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
