This cowl was inspired by the pattern that accompanied the mosaic Skill Builder Box from SWEET PAPRIKA DESIGNS. I’ve taken the main mosaic stitch pattern in the “Larimar” pattern, designed by Arella Seaton, recentered it on the border of my design, and repeated the first eight rows of the stitch pattern on the main body of my cowl. SWEET PAPRIKA’S Minuet yarn is 100% superwash merino, in a DK weight, and it knits up beautifully in this mosaic pattern, creating a cowl that’s warm but not too heavy. Their tonal colourways have rich, interesting dimensions, and the “Dark Roast” could be paired with a natural cream, rather than the “Cotton Candy,” to give the finished cowl a more masculine vibe. Or, choose any two colours you wish!

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, to complete this project are:

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit;
  • slipping stitches, with yarn held at the back of the work, and at the front of the work;
  • reading mosaic charts (instructions in pattern).

“Craigleith is rich with history: the first skiers at Blue Mountain came by train to the station, and by horse and carriage to the ski hills! Today it is home to four-season activities of all kinds.”
