Diamonds for Shawls
This is my 400th free pattern on Ravelry!
Here’s another 1894 Weldon pattern with no illustration which increases its chances for oblivion, if it isn’t investigated. There are 12 rows, all of them “fancy” rows but there’s no wrong side. There’s a multiple of 16 stitches + 5 stitches to balance the pattern + 2 selvage stitches. This pattern can be used for afghans, scarves, etc. - not just shawls.
There are 23 stitches outside the 16-stitch repeat, making 39 the minimum number of stitches for this pattern. Those 23 stitches make half patterns on either side of the repeats.
I made 2 swatches because I started the yellow, cotton-yarn swatch first and decided a wool yarn would look better with this pattern.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, k2tog, k3tog, YO and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
76 yards of Wool of the Andes sport weight yarn will make 10 inches of a 39-stitch swatch at gauge.
