I revised this pattern from 1912 Fleisher’s Knitting and Crocheting Manual, p. 159, to balance the eyelet size on either side of the double decrease. I also changed the garter stitch columns to stockinette stitch for better contrast. Even with the changes, I’ve kept the overall visual effect of the original vertical pattern. There are 4 pattern rows and a multiple of 9 stitches + 2 selvage stitches.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

60 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of a 38-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
