The Latin word duplex means double, two-fold. It is used for something that is double, made up of two similar parts, or going in two directions, just as this two-tiered cowl with matching cuffs.

Construction
The cowl is begun with a provisional cast on, from this the ruffles are worked from the top down. The cuffs are worked from the wrist towards the fingers.
