The Éclair Ruffle Scarf is named after the delicate ruffles that resemble the soft cream piped on top of an éclair. The layered edges and gentle fullness create a silhouette that feels both playful and refined.

The scarf begins with a narrow ribbon, followed by a double-knitted center worked simultaneously with ruffles along both edges. The interaction between the double-knitted structure and the alternating knit-and-slip rhythm gives the ruffles their distinctive volume and texture.

This pattern includes three versions:

• Base Version – A balanced, classic proportion
• Variation I – A wider double-knit section with defined shaping
• Variation II – A sculptural version where the center and ruffles are increased together

The design is highly adaptable. You can use virtually any yarn you love, and most versions can be completed with approximately one skein. The sample projects use a range of fibers to demonstrate how differently the ruffles behave depending on the yarn.

For best results, I recommend using needles 0.5–1.0 mm smaller than the yarn’s suggested needle size. A slightly denser gauge helps the ruffles hold their shape and prevents them from becoming too loose or droopy.

Because the stitch count is easy to modify, you can adjust the width and length according to your preferred yarn weight and desired size—whether you envision a close-fitting choker style or a longer, flowing scarf.

This pattern is written for intermediate knitters who are comfortable with double knitting, directional increases (M1R/M1L), and centered double decreases (CDD). However, knitters who understand the basic knit and purl structure can also complete the project with the help of the step-by-step photos included in the pattern and the accompanying YouTube tutorial.

A full video tutorial is available on YouTube to guide you through the overall construction.

I hope you enjoy exploring the structure and creating your own version of this softly layered design.
