This sock design was a part of a campaign started by the British indiedyer Countess Ablaze.
Last winter she was asked to work for free as they said “You’ll get exposure”. Countess Ablaze is a proud small-creative-biz owner and rejected the offer. Instead she dyed unique skeins of yarn which she sold and gave money to charity. It was an huge success and she raised over £3000 for Women’s Aid!
Now Countess Ablaze has started TitsOutCollective, where close to 300 indiedyers, designers and makers from all over the world take part to spread the word that we can value our work. At the same time we give at least 20% to charity.
I have chosen the Swedish non-profit organisation Child Diabetes Foundation (Barndiabetesfonden). The Charity raising continues after the Tits Out Collective-campaign is over.
This design was sold earlier under a different name with just toe-up instructions. I have expanded the pattern to include cuff-down instructions as well.
As the heel is added afterwards, these socks are perfect for hand-dyed yarns since the pattern is not broken as would be the case when knitting many other heels. The main part of the pattern is also easy to knit, so you can do it by heart, which makes it great for bringing along in the bag just to pick up when you feel the urge to knit.*

Notions & Needles
1 stitch marker
1 movable stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Scrap yarn in contrasting colour, approx. 60 cm / 2 ft
2.25 mm / US1 needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. May use circular needles or dpns, see below.
Choosing needles
If I Want Exposure Socks can be knit on any type of needles. The cast on is usually easier to manage on a long circular needle, but it is possible also on dpns.
These socks are a perfect choise for a 9” circular needle, it is only the toe and the heel that is easier on dpns or a longer circular needle using Magic Loop method.
