Fleisher's St. Claire
This easy stitch pattern from 1912 Fleisher’s Knitting and Crocheting Manual, p.160, makes identical vertical lines on both sides of the knitting. Before blocking, it forms a subtle pleat. With only one pattern row and a repeat of 4 stitches, it’s so easy, it’s good to work when half your attention is elsewhere. Blocked or unblocked, this pattern makes a great reversible scarf or afghan.
I really enjoy bringing you these vintage one-row patterns: so useful to have in your knitting library!
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
42 yards of Hobbii’s Portobello yarn will make 10 inches of a 24-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
