This simple Austrian-style jacket accompanies the Special Topics in Finishing article on Attached (applied) I-cords . Traditionally these jackets are boiled wool, but I did pick up two in the 90s in Graz, Austria, for my daughters that were worked in garter stitch. I nearly didn’t buy them since, as a knitter, I thought, I could make them. But I came to my senses. Two jackets in garter stitch would have taken forever. Those jackets are long gone, but now I have one to give a special child.

The pockets are more decorative than practical. I included them just to practice my pockets skills and as another place for applied I-cords. You can make them larger or omit them completely. (Level 2 of the Masters included this pocket construction.)

The jacket is worked in one piece to the armholes when the fronts and back are divided. When selecting a size, please note that there is 5” of ease since the jacket will be worn over clothes.
