Hearthome Socks are cozy, vintage inspired house socks designed for chilly evenings and slow knitting time. The thick folded cuffs and playful “XO” cables make them warm and cheerful to wear while still feeling practical and approachable to knit.

The traditional heel flap and gusset create a tidy, reliable fit, and the worsted weight yarn makes them a comfortable introduction to both sock knitting and cables. With the cable motif repeating down the sock, you quickly settle into the pattern and gain confidence for larger cable projects.

Design Details

Hearthome Socks are worked in the round from the cuff down to the toe. The folded cuff creates a warm cushioned edge before transitioning into the repeating cable pattern along the leg and foot.

The heel is worked with a heel flap knit flat, followed by a short row heel turn and gusset pickup to return to working in the round. The toe is finished with Kitchener stitch.

For a cozy finishing touch, optional i-cord ties and pompoms can be added at the end.

Pattern Highlights

  • Cozy folded cuffs for extra warmth
  • Approachable cable motif that becomes easy to memorize
  • Traditional heel flap and gusset for a dependable fit
  • Optional ties and pompoms for a playful finish

Construction Overview

The socks are knit seamlessly from the cuff down. After the folded cuff, the cable pattern is worked down the leg.

The heel flap is worked flat, followed by a short row heel turn. Stitches are picked up for the gusset and the sock is joined back in the round to work the foot. The toe is closed using Kitchener stitch.

The i-cord tie and pompoms are optional and added after knitting is complete.

Yarn Notes

Our sample was knit in Malabrigo Rios Worsted, a 100% superwash merino wool that is soft, springy, and comfortable against the skin while still giving the cables clear stitch definition.

The worsted weight gauge makes these socks especially approachable and quick to knit. Most standard 100g worsted skeins will comfortably complete a pair.

Yarn: Malabrigo Rios Worsted
Fiber: 100% Superwash Merino Wool
Yardage: 210 yards (192 m) per 100 g skein

Yardage required:
280 (320, 360, 400) yards
256 (292, 330, 365) meters

Hearthome are house socks intended to be worn close to your coziest knitting spot. If extra durability is desired, a strand of nylon quilting thread or spare sock yarn can be woven into high impact areas such as the heels and toes to reinforce.
