Oy vey! This 1884 reversible insertion/strip had errors on every row until I cast on 17 stitches instead of the original 15 stitches. That left “just” more 3 errors to fix! The wide spacing between motifs is unusual for Victorian insertions.
There are 18 pattern rows – all of them “fancy” but the pattern is not as difficult as that sounds.
This narrow strip could be an accent in an afghan or scarf as well as an insertion.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO twice, k2tog, SSK and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
30 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 will make 10 inches of this insertion/strip at gauge.
