This skirt pattern accompanies the Special Topics in Finishing article on live stitch hems (link here). The skirt demonstrates two ways to do a live stitch hem. Worked from the bottom up, stitches are cast on using a provisional cast-on technique. The inside of the hem is then worked. Next, a picot turning row is worked, and then the stitches for the outside of the hem are worked. On the last row, the stitches from the provisional cast on are transferred to a second needle and those stitches are knit together with the stitches on the first needle.

The waist band demonstrates the second way to work a live stitch hem. If the stitches for the waistband are bound off, it may be difficult to pull the skirt over the hips. A casing for elastic is worked and seaming it would be very inelastic. Instead, the stitches are left live and grafted to the inside of the waistband.

A simple eyelet pattern is worked after the picot hem. The skirt is designed to be worn a little low on the hips.
