London Lady's Eyelets
The instructions for this 1884 eyelet pattern from a London ladies’ journal didn’t match the engraved image at all, so I worked with the image and not the instructions. There are 6 rows and all but one row is “knit across” or “purl across”. Any even number of stitches will work for this pattern. Both sides are presentable; you choose which side you like best.
This pattern also works as beading with ribbon woven through the eyelets. I can imagine a couple of repeats of London Lady’s Eyelets on a child’s sleeve with ribbons. This pattern would also work for a beach bag or swimsuit cover-up.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
