Mt. Hood Stitch
After working the “Snow Flurries” pattern from The Lady’s Book of Knitting and Crochet, ca. 1875, I changed it to be a bit more visually organized. The result reminded me of Mt. Hood’s snowy, craggy edges. The simple, quick-to-work pattern has a 2-stitch, 4-row repeat. The selvage stitches (1 stitch on each side) can be omitted, if needed.
The swatch is 3.5 inches wide and 4.25 inches long. It took me 1 hour to knit 4 inches of the 30-stitch-wide swatch.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, slip, k2tog, p2tog, yarn over and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
36 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make 6 inches of a 30-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
