A giant shawl (or small blanket) with graceful lines and an enveloping warmth. The pattern is inspired by stylized pomegranates and the color distribution is influenced by ikat and tie-dyed textiles.
Please note that this pattern assumes you are familiar with the brioche knitting technique!
Knit on 5mm/US8 needles, with approximately 1500m/1640yds of MC & 1350m/1500yds of CC yarns including Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, Schoppelwolle Zauberperlen and various others.
Dimensions: approximately 83in/210cm long by 41.5in/105cm wide.
Gauge: approximately 12 stitches and 18 rows = 4 inches/10cm in plain brioche knitting unblocked.
The shawl is quite big - to make a smaller project you can use a smaller needle size.
The chart has an unusual layout as it is divided into repeating sections which are sometimes worked once and sometimes three times. All is explained in the notes.
I used a range of reds, pinks, oranges and rusty reds as MC.
My MC yarns included Schoppel Wolle Zauberperlen and Admiral Hanf, Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, CaMaRose Yaku,
Holst Garn Supersoft held double and various leftover bits and pieces. My CC yarns included Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, Schoppel Wolle Seniorita, CaMaRose Yaku, Síoda from Apple Oak Fibre Works, Holst Garn Supersoft held double and some leftovers.
The pdf includes a chart, notes, instructions, lots of photos and a splicing phototutorial. This is a charted pattern with some notes on brioche techniques. For clarity and ease of use, the chart shows patterned rows only and does not use standardized Brioche symbols and notation. Stitches include multiple increases, and left and right-leaning decreases.
