Rockhound Vest
The Rockhound Collection is on sale — 30% off the Hat, Vest, and Pullover through Monday. No code needed.
Rockhound Vest is where the collection started. A cable sweater vest with a sharp V neckline, rustic texture, and a modern silhouette. The cables run front and back, the twisted ribbing collar frames the neckline beautifully, it has a timeless, slightly bookish quality you’ll reach for season after season.
Layer it over a button up, a turtleneck, a t-shirt, or a dress. Wear it on its own. Rockhound Vest works every time.
Design Details
The V neckline is deep and flattering, finished with a twisted ribbing collar that gives it a classic vibe. The armhole and neckline shaping are worked into the construction so the vest fits the way a vest should; structured through the shoulder, comfortable through the body, and flattering on everyone.
Choose less ease for a tailored, collegiate fit, or more ease for the version you layer and wear all day.
Pattern Highlights
- Cables front and back with stockinette body
- Deep V neckline with twisted ribbing collar
- Armhole and neckline shaping built into the construction
- Two fit options, tailored or relaxed
- Seamless top down construction with video tutorials
Construction Overview
Rockhound Vest is knit seamlessly from the top down. Each back shoulder is cast on separately onto waste yarn using a provisional cast on. The back shoulders are joined across the shaped neckline and worked flat to the armholes, incorporating armscye shaping.
Stitches for the front V neck panels are picked up along the back shoulders and worked flat to the armholes. Once the back, front left, and front right sections reach the armholes, they are joined and the body is worked in the round to the hem.
Twisted 1x1 ribbing is picked up and worked around the neckline and armholes to finish.
Yarn Notes
Rockhound really shines in a toothy non-superwash wool. A rustic or heritage style wool gives the cables crisp definition and helps the vest hold its shape.
Our sample was knit in Folklore by Blacker Yarns, a 100% British wool that creates a structured, classic fabric with real depth in the cables. The kind of yarn that suits the pattern perfectly.
Folklore by Blacker Yarns
Fiber: 100% British wool
Yardage: 218 yds (199 m) per 100g skein
Tonal and solid shades work best for this design. Superwash yarns will give a softer, drapier result if you prefer a more fluid feel.
