Roman Road Mitts evoke the character of the
old Roman roads built from about 300 BCE
through the expansion and consolidation of
the Roman Empire. The seed stitch captures
the cobblestones and textures of the roads,
while the curving and straight cable sections
evoke the network of roads that crisscrossed
the Empire.
Beginning with a lozenge cable cuff worked
flat and seamed, stitches are picked up and
joined in the round, with the hand and thumb
incorporating basic rope cables and seed
stitch. The pattern includes directions for
seven sizes from hand circumferences 6-9”
