When I learned Shibui had a new yarn—Murmur, which is classified as a bulky yarn—I knew I had to try it as soon as possible as I love all of their yarns. Murmur is no different although I prefer not to work with bulky yarns.

I thought a pair of very simple mitts would be a good project to showcase this yarn. I’ve graded it as a basic, or beginner, pattern although it has a very simple cable at the center. (My first knitted project was a cabled vest.) There is no thumb gusset to complicate things—just an opening for the thumb. The mitts are worked in the round until the thumb opening, when six rows are worked flat. There is only one size, but since the mitts are ribbed, they will accommodate most hand sizes. Instead of writing out the pattern row by row, I have charted the entire mitt since there are so few stitches.
