Solstice is a beautiful triangular shawl knit in cobweb weight wool, inspired by a trip to see the Stone Age Passage Tomb in Newgrange, Co. Meath during the Winter Solstice last year. Unfortunately, the fog didn’t allow the light to travel up the passageway but the shawl is light and warm and makes up for my disappointment!

The cobweb weight is knit with a 2.75mm needle, so while it is fine, it is not overly difficult if you want to challenge yourself. The motifs are small and the lace is knit on every row (the shawl is knit from the top down in garter stitch) so it will keep you busy and interested to the very end.

The shawl is knit from a garter tab cast on and the two halves are identical separated by a centre spine stitch. The edging is knit on at the end, so there is only a small cast off to finish.

You will need 3 x 25g of Jamieson’s Ultra Cobweb wool.

Gauge is not critical and you can knit this shawl in laceweight either to stunning effect. The laceweight version used 937 yards approx using a 3.5mm needle and was 38” x 76”.
