Construction Overview:
Three Season Cardigan is worked from the top down. You’ll begin by working the back shoulder pieces separately, then join them across the back neck for smooth, seamless shaping. The back panel is then worked flat to the underarm. From there, the front panels are picked up and worked down to the hem—knit right from the live stitches of the back shoulder cast-ons. This creates a comfortable V-neck with elegant shaping and cable detailing. After the body is complete, sleeves are picked up and worked in the round. The button band and collar are added last, with simple one-row buttonholes and a clean finish at the neckline, worked into the live stitches held from the start. You can choose to seam the sides with mattress stitch or join to work the body in the round after the armscye.

Sizing & Fit:
Three Season Cardigan is designed with 5-9” of positive ease at the bust, giving it a relaxed, comfy fit. To select your size, choose a size based on the “Width when buttoned” measurement for the desired amount of ease.
Size Options (Width when buttoned):
40 (43.5, 46.5, 49, 53.5)(58, 62, 65, 70, 75)“
103 (110, 118, 125, 136)(147, 157, 165, 178, 190) cm
How to choose your size:
For example, if your full bust measurement is 40”, you can choose:
- Size 46.5” for 6.5” of positive ease
- Size 49” for 9” of positive ease
This cardigan is designed to fit comfortably across the bust while offering more ease through the body, making it perfect for layering.
Yarn Recommendations:
We recommend a worsted-weight yarn with a cotton-wool blend for a cardigan that’s warm yet light. This yarn makes the cables and textured stitches really stand out.
Recommended Yarns:
- Cascade Cantata: 70% Cotton / 30% Merino Wool, 218 yds (200 m) per 100g skein
- Katia Concept Cotton-Merino: 70% Cotton / 30% Wool, 115 yds (105 m) per 50g skein
Both yarns have a unique construction, combining cotton and merino wool in a blown tube, creating an airy and lofty fabric that’s perfect for transitional weather. Cables and textured stitches really shine with these yarns!
Alternative Yarns:
Look for “blow yarns” with a similar cotton-wool construction, such as Drops Air or Hobbii Divina. 100% Merino wool also works beautifully for this design.
Yardage:
These yardages include swatching and are for a cropped body length. If you plan to lengthen the cardigan, consider purchasing an extra skein of yarn.
790 (900, 960, 1020, 1120)(1240, 1360, 1460, 1580, 1720) yards
722 (825, 880, 935, 1024)(1134, 1244, 1335, 1445, 1573) meters
Buttons:
We recommend 4 x 1” buttons, though the buttonhole technique included with the pattern allows for easy adaptation to any size button you wish.
