This beautiful but simple stitch should be on every knitter’s radar! Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 1, p.10, calls it “Crow’s Foot” and the not-so-great image is of an unblocked swatch from the wrong side. When blocked and shown from the right side, this pattern reminds me of tiny teapots with upturned spouts! The pattern has just 2 rows (one of the rows is “purl across”) and a 3-stitch repeat. The lace pattern tends to bias but can be blocked straight.
The sample is 4 inches wide with two 6-stitch borders and 7 repeats. It took me 20 minutes to work 1 inch of the pattern in the stated gauge.

Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, yarn over, slip a stitch over 2 stitches, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

11 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 2 inches of a 33-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
