This pattern is from ca. 1888 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 1, p.5. Weldon called it “Lattice-work Insertion” but it can easily be an afghan strip or scarf. The pattern is identical on both sides. I added 2 selvage stitches to the pattern but you can omit these 2 stitches, if preferred.
The 24-stitch swatch is 4 inches wide at gauge.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, YO twice, k2tog, p2tog, SK2P and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

43 yards of Lion Brand OH BABY organic will make 10 inches of a 24-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
