Weldon's Saxon Star
This very popular, very simple star is from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 5, p.8. The original star had “bay leaves” surrounding it but I omitted them for simplicity. This reversible star can be repeated for an afghan strip.
Chart lovers are in luck! There’s a chart of Saxon Star on p.114 of “Knitting Counterpanes…” by Mary Walker Phillips, 1989. Her version includes a double moss stitch frame around the star.
Saxon Star is 5 inches wide and 7 inches long at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
55 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 1 Saxon Star in the stated gauge.
