Rain and gusty wind made for a cozy tea-and-tweed day as I knit this swatch.
This simple but handsome pattern from ca. 1896 was used on a child’s vest. The wonderful texture would make a snugly sweater, scarf or afghan. There are 4 pattern rows of just knit and purl stitches with a 3-stitch repeat on 2 of the rows.
I blocked my swatch lightly to preserve that great texture but you can block as needed.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

28 yards of Wool of the Andes Tweed (worsted wt.) yarn will make 10” of a 30-stitch swatch at gauge.
