This shawl was something of an experiment. I had several balls of Stylecraft’s Senses Lace in three different colours and wanted to do something with it. I didn’t know what. I knew I wanted to challenge myself a bit, use a combination of interesting stitches and make something beautiful.

This is a lightweight lacy scarf, ideal for spring and autumn or cooler summer evenings. It combines two very different lace patterns: a diamond pattern that is repeated along with a central cobweb pattern -- hence the name!

This hooded cape has sections of chunky cables alternated with stocking stitch and a series of increases to flare out from the neck. It’s bright and bold and perfect for all youngsters. Pushkar means lotus, the national flower of India and said to be the seat of Brahma. I learnt this at Birmingham’s Pushkar restaurant. The food was lovely, as were the cocktails. I had only just started working on this design at the time, and as it uses the lotus flower stitch, the name seemed fitting.

I grew up in East Anglia, in the east of England. The landscape is very flat and where the fens have been drained it can be quite empty, allowing the wind to blow across it. Stands of Poplar trees were planted at field edges to act as windbreaks. This lace pattern reminds me of those tall, narrow trees.
