Knitting: Cowl, Beanie, Toque
Designed to “taste” custom dyes from Jimmy Bean’s Wool & Koigu in tandem with a beer tasting hosted by Wisconsin Brewing Company at the 2015 Madison Knitter’s Guild Knit In.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern was designed for the Madison Knitters’ Guild Knit In 2015. It can be worked with any sport weight yarns, but Koigu and Jimmy Beans Wool created a custom palette for us!

Peter’s Hat
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This is a written pattern with a formula for sizing the hat for the recipient. It started as a fun way to let some of my favorite kids design their own hats for me to make using stranded colorwork, and then it morphed into a bonus hand out for my students when I teach two handed stranded knitting classes.
Knitting: Cowl
John Muir said of this area “All the landscapes of the Sierra, as we have seen, were born again, remodeled from base to summit by the developing ice-floods of the last glacial winter.”

Gorgeous Mount Tallac creates a beautiful backdrop for the Tallac Historical Site and Museum. The gentle peak rises up and overlooks the lake, providing a majestic backdrop to the historic buildings of Camp Richardson, Tallac Historic Site, and many trails for bicycling, hiking, and strolling along the shores of the lake. This sweater is comfor...
Knitting: Cowl
The Ridge Tahoe is our “home away from home” when our family visits the Lake Tahoe area. This cowl is inspired by the rugged strength and comfortable fit of this resort perched atop Dagget Summit and overlooking both the Kingsbury Grade and South Lake Tahoe.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Beautifully clear Crystal Bay on the north end of Lake Tahoe is said to contain the deepest point in the lake. In addition, the famed Cal-Neva Resort is on Crystal Bay and boasts a swimming pool that crosses state lines (California & Nevada). Once a favorite hang out of the Rat Pack, the resort now contains a spa and remains a luxurious pla...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These delightful mitts are designed to mimic the cabling on the Summit Lake Scarf. Tiny buttons set off the cuffs and accent with just the right touch of detail and ruggedness. Gentle shaping between the cables creates a graceful curve on the back of the hand and keeps the fit nice and close for warmth and low profile. Fold the ribbed cuff down...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Summit Lake lies to the south of Lake Tahoe and is in the Truckee Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest. One of my favorite parts of hiking this trail is the fact that it includes a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. At an elevation of 7200’, it is a pleasant trail with granite slopes and steps, gentle forest climbs, and even a taste of...

The Rubicon Trail runs along the south west shore of Lake Tahoe within D.L.Bliss State Park and is possibly one of my favorite hiking trails in the area. As hikers wander the trail, weaving in and out of the forest, spectacular views of the lake greet them at every turn. Most of the hike is at an elevation far above the shore, giving one a bit ...
Knitting: Legwarmers
These lovely leggings will keep your legs toasty warm all winter, and the lace motif will remind you of the scenic switchbacks that criss cross a good mountain hike with elevation gains. The gentle 2x2 cables mimic the twisted grains of the trees that grow on the mountain side, and the button plackets make the leggings so versatile! Tuck them i...
Knitting: Cowl
Fannette Island in Emerald Bay is the only island in Lake Tahoe. Now permanently closed and a part of Emerald Bay State Park, it once held the private Tea House of Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight. Emerald Bay was formed by glaciers thousands of years ago, but geologists believe there is a rib of very strong granite, and that rib is what formed Fanne...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Flowers decorate the mountainsides and alpine meadows in the spring. Fed by the melting snow pack and rapidly flowing streams, the flowers and plant life burst forth, to the delight of hikers and animals alike. Welcome spring by chasing the chill with this two color stranded hat!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Just like the name of the pattern and common hiking philosophy, this hat is all about your own experience. Change colors, add stripes, add texture, switch things around…it should be entirely your own. Or, simply follow the path and enjoy the experience, knowing you’ll end it with something beautiful.
Knitting: Legwarmers, Boot Cuffs / Toppers
This pattern is free until April 30 with the coupon code “ILOVETAHOEKNITS”. Enjoy!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque, Cloche Hat
Cast on at the top of the crown and knit down towards the brim, so the size is infinitely adjustable. Subtle shaping and eyelets will form a delicate ruffled brim, and the construction and pattern is easily memorized once the cast on and 12 set up rounds have been executed.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl design was inspired by the incredibly soft wooliness of Quince & Company’s owl yarn. I ordered it as a special treat to myself, and once I had it in hand, I knew it had to become something cozy and delightful. As I started swatching and sketching, it became apparent to me that this yarn wanted to become something great, and it re...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Emma Shawlette was inspired by the contest hosted on the Jane Austen’s Girls Swap group on Ravelry. Emily of AndersMill and I consulted the photos of group members’ favorite scenes to pull inspiration for a custom colorway and a custom design…and here it is!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The suggested yarn is a local producer (you can order by calling 715.421.0121 or emailing kimmetcroft AT solarus DOT net), but any fingering weight yarn will work well.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Each year in the spring, I’m delighted to see the shoots pop up through the snow and frozen earth to blooom anew. This green hand dye reminded me of those breathless moments of delight when I see the first blooms in the yard…and this year, spring is coming a bit late! We’ve had quite a bit of snow this year, so it’s really just been spring…ISH,...
Knitting: Headband
This headband was inspired by Hermione, my favorite curly haired student of Hogwarts in the beloved Harry Potter books by JK Rowling.
Knitting: Child Doll (American Girl, Sasha, etc)
This is a pattern and instructions to create a work bag and needle accessories for your favorite 18” doll. My doll is Kirsten, and I’d like to think that she enjoys knitting just as much as I do.
Knitting: Earrings
Luna Lovegood is a beloved character in the later Harry Potter books. She is known particularly for sporting Dirigible Plum (Radish) earrings. While I’ve seen patterns for knitting up a pair, they all seemed larger than what I was looking for…so I’ve written up a pattern for a delicate beaded pair.
Knitting: Child Doll (American Girl, Sasha, etc)
This shawl is a quick and easy project, just perfect for that partial skein of leftover yarn, and can easily be scaled up for a child or an adult. I find it helpful to mark the right side of my work with a locking stitch marker or safety pin, as the construction is completely in garter stitch.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This is a basic pattern which changes look dramatically with each change of accessory and embellishment. The pattern includes instructions for two different flowers and a button mount in addition to the hat pattern.
Knitting: Scarf, Cowl
This pattern is for a piece that is both SCARF and COWL, depending on how the wearer chooses to wear it!
Knitting: Ring
This is a free pattern designed for the Jane Austen Girls Swap Group, and is laid out on a notecard. Print out the PDF, fold it to an A2 sized card, write a thoughtful note, and send it off to a friend!
Knitting: Necklace
This pattern is designed to use just a small amount of luxurious yarn…perhaps a sampler or mini-skein of that beloved hand paint, or the leftovers from a favorite sweater. Though it is styled as a necklace in the photos, one could just as easily knit a longer icord for a belt or waist tie, or perhaps use it tied around ones’ hair. Beads can eas...
Knitting: Mittens
These mittens are constructed from the cuff up, and have a delicate four stitch cable snaking around the outside of each hand. The right and left mitts are constructed in a mirror opposite pattern, so once you’ve got the first one done, the second is a refreshing change!
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Mr. Woodhouse rarely travels far from home, and certainly wouldn’t leave Highbury, so this is the one pattern in the collection that is based not on travelling, but on staying cozy at home.
Knitting: Headband
This headpiece has very little finish work, can be constructed with a small amount of yarn, and can be worn as a warm winter accessory if knitted in wool.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
We learn very little of Eliza Williams, the daughter of Colonel Brandon’s first beloved, Elizabeth Williams. We know only that she was left to Brandon’s care as a very small child, and the he did his best for her. The rest, as you may know, is left to our imaginations.
Knitting: Purse / Handbag
Instructions include complete written instructions for two sizes as well as a complete chart. Video demonstrations are linked to the PDF, as are some tutorials and technique descriptions published in Interweave Knits “Knitting Daily” to cover some of the techniques employed.
Knitting: Necklace
This is a PATTERN for a knitted necklace named after a character in Jane Austen’s book, EMMA. Mrs. Elton fears being “overtrimmed”, but you need not fear that with this necklace!
Knitting: Ring
“I have the greatest dislike to the idea of being over-trimmed -- quite a horror of finery…I have some notion of putting such a trimming as this to my white and silver poplin. Do you think it will look well?”
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
We don’t learn much about Margaret Dashwood in Jane Austen’s novel Sense & Sensibility. Poor Margaret spends much of her time in the shadow of her older sisters, Elinor & Marianne. We do know, however, that she shares the same sense and romantic nature with her dear mother and her older sister Marianne…with a dash of the common sense sh...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
This pattern is inspired by Mrs. Sophia Croft, a character in Jane Austen’s Persuasion. She travels all over the world, and a number of places around home.
Knitting: Wristlet
This bag can also be made in a worsted weight yarn with size 6 needles, resulting in a wristlet that is just perfect for a small project or your cell phone, lipstick, and keys for an evening out.
