Gentle Jewelry Trays
Happy May Day!
You can put creases in your knitting! A jewelry tray makes good use of these creases. Any gauge and almost any yarn would work for this tray. If a hairy yarn appeals to you, consider lining the tray with felt or fabric to avoid the yarn catching in the jewelry. This project is almost all stable garter stitch, so blocking is optional. Make any size or shape you need. The tab-less tray took me less than an afternoon to make!
Without the creases, this tray would look like “melty”. If you’d prefer that look, omit all purl stitches. 2 jump rings were used to mark the single-stitch columns of stockinette stitch. A loud, variegated yarn made this project more fun and I didn’t have to worry about making a second tray to match like I would for socks!
The orange tray is 3 inches square with a 1 inch lip at gauge. The blue tray is 3” x 3.25” x 1”.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl and bind off in knit stitch.
Optional: four 0.5” shank buttons
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
82 yards of Kroy Socks yarn will make the larger blue tray at gauge.
