I sought a simple, continuous flower chain to decorate a machine.

This textured, cabled pumpkin is about 4”/10.2cm tall, not counting the stem and 12” /30 cm circumference.

Whirly and Woven Flowers

Named for the great jazz singer Sarah Vaughn, the flower is a small with two layers of six petals.

Named for the great South African singer and freedom fighter, the Miriam Makeba flower comes in two versions, a flat five petal fleurette and a tiny ten-petal (two rows) dimensional flower.

The small mask-faces or face masks were made with a firm tension using a hook smaller than that usually recommended to create fabric with a given yarn.

I’ve been enamored of M.C. Escher’s tessellations and transformations my whole life – the way they make you rethink and see again the relationship between filled and empty space, the connection between being and emptiness, and the sheer joy of making pieces fit and connect.

These are small, compact trees and as such, details make the difference. While initially conceived of as ornaments for light trees, they may serve as bookmarks, appliqués or embellishments, and be small toys if two are made sewn together and stuffed lightly.

You may use any yarn you choose with the advice that the hook size should be a size or more smaller than that usually recommended to create a firm fabric for the appliqué and two sizes or more smaller than that recommended for the yarn when creating the amigurumi version (to prevent stuffing from showing).

The Julian Castle Crown is available in three sizes in this pattern. An Adult version, in a separate pattern, is also available.
