If you need clarification on how this pattern works on 84 sts, here are Rnd 6 & Rnd 12 instructions broken down step-by-step (Note: during the twist stitch maneuver there should still be 2 sts in the “twist” -- do not decrease):

To size up this pattern: increase the number of stitches cast on by a multiple of 6 (e.g., 66, 72, 78) so that the K3 P3 rib section comes out evenly. Work to a longer length before putting in the eyelet round, at about 1” less than desired total length of hat.

Scarf is worked in an interesting knit & purl combination that offsets every few rows for interest. Length is folded in half and a slip-stitch crocheted back seam forms the hood, which is finished off with a soft tassel. Cozy!
