Crochet: Afghan block
The Lodestar Square is a 12” crochet block, worked from the center out in two colors. Each point is outlined in front and back post stitches for a little added detail, and you can get all sorts of different looks depending on how/where you place the colors!
Crochet: Baby Blanket
Brassica is a free crochet baby blanket pattern that features crossed double crochet stitches and shells to show lots of texture. Make it in two colors as shown – I bet a gradient would look terrific as the B color – or one color for a more subtle look.
Crochet: Cowl
Long, loose and lacy this crochet cowl can be worn wrapped once around the neck or twice. Use three colors as I did here, or make it all on one color if you prefer.
Crochet: Hats - Other
This bucket hat is made of a soft cotton/acrylic blend yarn, and is crocheted all in one piece from the top down so there is no irritating seaming.
Crochet: Pillow / Cushion
One of my more vivid memories from my senior year in marching band was playing at a post season game at a school that had metal bleachers. It snowed, we froze! Make one of these plush cushions in your favorite team colors to support them in comfort and style.
Crochet: Kerchief
This crochet triangle bandana pattern alternates solid rows with mesh rows for an airy look, which is accentuated by the watercolor look of the yarn shading from one color family to the next.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque, Blanket - Other
This sweet crochet preemie cocoon with matching preemie hat is simple to crochet in the round, with double crochet stitches separated into segments by front post treble stitches. Don’t fancy an orange? Use green for lime, yellow for lemon, or any color you like to just admire the texture without the citrus theme!
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
I find myself purchasing sets of sock yarn minis whenever I see a color grouping that calls to me, but then I am never quite sure what to do with them afterwards – thus the Staircase Shawlette was born.
Crochet: Pullover
Crocheted in butter soft cotton, this bottom-up raglan sweater with tulip stitch details has an airy stitch pattern and an oversized fit. It is slightly cropped and has a relaxed round neck, but the fit is easily customized! Perfect between seasons sweater to add to your wardrobe.
Crochet: Market bag (slouchy)
Four Corner to Corner (C2C) crochet panels turn into this fun striped bag, even though you never work in the round except for the top edging! It’s an unusual way to make a bag, and once you have learned the process you can do all sort of variations with size and colors.
Crochet: Animal Toy
Lalo the Longhorn Cow is crocheted in the round in Super Bulky yarn so he works up quickly and is very durable. Weight the hooves and belly as I did here so he stands easily on his own, or simply use polyester stuffing so he is cuddly soft!
Crochet: Toys and Hobbies - Other
I have seen a bunch of tiny crochet fidget toy patterns, and those are great for stealth fidgeting, but I got interested in making a bigger, fluffier one! Because of the mobius construction you can pull the ruffle through the center opening – well, forever.
Crochet: Toys and Hobbies - Other
A while back I did a pattern and video tutorial for an extra large crochet fidget toy, and while it has been very popular, I have fielded several requests for a small one so here it is!

Crochet: Headband
These crochet bunny ears are quick to make, and easy to stitch onto a padded headband from the dollar store. You could even add some flowers to fancy them up for the Easter parade or your favorite cosplay con.
Crochet: Scarf
I have always loved the colors of rose and gray together and think they work particularly well in this scarf. Rose colored hearts alternate with gray panels of a simple yet more textured shape. The scarf is made in two halves so that when you are wearing it, the hearts are right side up on both sides! And it is easily modified for size – if you...
Crochet: Necklace
Learn how to crochet this choker that can be made in an hour!
Crochet: Washcloth / Dishcloth
Who says washcloths need to be square? The Ranunculus Washcloth free crochet pattern works up quickly in this wavy two-row repeat and would look great in any combination of colors – or even one color!
Crochet: Cardigan
Wrap sweaters are terrific for babies for two reasons – one, you don’t have to fuss with putting a sweater over a wriggly small person’s head, and two, the sizing is very forgiving so you can get a lot of wear out of your lovely crochet work.
Crochet: Necklace
This is SO simple to make, and you can get several out of one skein of yarn! The bead in the back means you can easily adjust the size and take it from choker to statement piece.
Crochet: Containers
These bright and happy baskets – with or without the wooden base – will make a great addition to any room in your house where you want to corral some clutter. A tighter than average gauge on this smooth bulky yarn makes sure the sides of the basket stand up and don’t collapse. Made in Bernat Maker Home Dec in two colors, and hooks sized from I/...
Knitting: Scarf
Learn to knit the Broken Rib Stitch by making this quick to knit super bulky scarf. Modification notes given so you can adapt to any weight yarn or size project.
Knitting: Scarf
In this post and its video tutorial, you can learn how to knit the Mistake Rib while making a quick and comfy scarf for winter. While my model is in a super bulky yarn, you can easily adjust this pattern to accommodate any weight of yarn as long as you follow the math and knit with the appropriate sized needles. And it’s fully reversible!
Crochet: Scarf
This simple two-row repeat makes the Comfy Cozy Scarf a snap to stitch up. Use an alpaca blend yarn as I did here for extra warmth and texture. This is a free crochet pattern with a video tutorial!
Crochet: Cowl
Hearthside will keep you warm and cozy on a winter’s night with or without the fire! Crocheted in a möbius from the center of the wrap out, it works up very quickly in a Super Bulky yarn. Stripe two colors as I did in the model, or use just one color for a more subtle look – the texture will still make this piece look great!
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
Worked from the bottom up this graphic hat features a ribbed brim, tapestry crochet band featuring a partial Greek Key pattern, and a double crochet crown.
Crochet: Hanging Ornament
Free on the blog, these cute round Christmas ornaments are super quick to make from scraps or cotton yarn, and are filled easily with slices of pool noodles instead of messy stuffing!

Crochet: Vest
Crocheted from the bottom up, this seamless swing vest is made in a stitch pattern reminiscent of a trellis with a garden of flowers scattered about. Customize your vest with more or less flowers, placed where they suit your fancy!
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
I called this the Ornamental Shawlette because not only will it ornament your lovely body, but for some reason when I look at the stitch pattern it reminds me of Christmas ornaments hanging from the tree. The yarn even has a little glitter/tinsel to it!
Knitting: Cowl
Knit in one piece, in one skein of Lion Brand (r) Scarfie the fabric looks loose and sloppy when you get started, but some clever finger chaining makes a dense yet lightweight fabric that makes perfect use of the slow color change in the yarn.
Crochet: Mittens
Like everyone else in the world I was quite taken with the sight of Bernie Sanders sitting at the Inauguration. While the eye-catching warm bulky mittens he wore were made by a Vermont artist who uses felted sweaters and fleece to make her creations, of course I decided I wanted to do a crochet version.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These are very easy to stitch, and even though you have two colors in each stripe, you are only stitching with one color at a time so there are no bobbins to juggle.
Knitting: Scarf
Super easy garter stitch scarf with solid stripes on one side and a more multi colored look on the other. Fringed as you knit so it’s super easy to finish, with no ends to weave in.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque

As part of the 2019 Crochet Cancer Challenge I have designed this bright yellow hat For Eddy. My father Ed passed away after a long and well-lived life, of bladder cancer. Because of this I chose a bright yellow yarn because yellow is the color of support for bladder cancer.
Crochet: Cowl
Thick and tweedy this cushy cowl will keep you or a loved one warm on a cold winter’s night! The yarn shades gradually from one tweedy color to the next. Use neutrals like I did here or grab a brighter colorway to brighten up a dreary day.
Knitting: Scarf
It seems like Fall is finally coming which means Winter won’t be far behind! My niece who goes to school in NYC asked me for an all purpose scarf that wouldn’t be too heavy now, but that she could wrap around her face and neck to keep the wind away. This scarf knits up fast in bulky yarn, is simple enough that even a brand new beginner can knit...

Knitting: Beanie, Toque
One of the things I appreciate about that reversible cable brim is that it can be worn two ways – as above, with the brim turned up for a closer fit, and as shown below with the brim folded down for more of a slouchy fit.
Crochet: Cowl
This is a very simple cowl to stitch – it is stitched flat with increases on one side, a work even section, and decreases on the other side. When the buttons are placed, the long side edge becomes the straight bottom of the cowl!
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Lacy, staggered double crochet diamonds contain a quatrefoil pattern of tall cluster stitches, resembling leaves. While the pattern can be a little challenging to set up, its six-row repeat quickly becomes intuitive, giving you a project that is just as interesting to stitch as it is to wear.

Crochet: Fingerless Gloves, Cloche Hat
Staggered shell stitches make a crocheted fabric with an even, overall texture which accentuates the lush tonal qualities of hand-dyed yarns.
