Mom’s Birthday Sweater: Attempt #4

Popper’s Hat

I like making a mess in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing. It could be cooking, dyeing yarn or just making a simple cup of tea. No matter what, somehow something spills on the floor.

I remember when I was younger asking my Mom if I could wash the dishes. She was afraid I’d make a mess (rightly so) but Dad told her to let me do it. So they setup a stool (I couldn’t reach the sink yet) and thus began my adventure washing dishes. Let’s just say it was the first, and last, time I’ve done them. I do not enjoy it.

I really liked the colors of Harley Quinn’s hair/clothing in Suicide Squad, so much so that I decided to design a hat with them. It was oddly serendipitous that I had some Ava scraps in the exact colors that I needed!

Cowl is knit in the round.

The Alexis Blue Cowl

Bring the Mediterranean into your home without having to travel!

Fall is here and it’s my favorite season! The weather gets cooler, the colors turn richer and the knitting gets faster! This shawl was insipred by the color of the changing leaves and I couldn’t resist adding some beads for a subtle sparkle.

This is a wonderfully lightweight tunic perfect for summer wearing! Knit flat, the shoulder seams are attached with a 3-needle-bind-off after a stockinette tube is strung on the strap. Long lengths of i-cord are threaded through the sides for added elegance.

Diamonds Hood Cowl

I wanted to blend the density of cables with the airiness of lace to achieve a hat that would be warm but also elegant.

I’m so addicted to paracord, I want to use it on everything! This cowl is worked from the top down, double knit to create a closed tube then joined to work in the round for the slip stitch pattern. The end is an i-cord bind off and the paracord is pushed through the tube at the top to be tightned at the neck. My Mom helped me pick out the color...

I had found a beautiful wallpaper on-line with some birds on branches and I knew I wanted to design a hat inspired by that. So commenced the doodling and the hat, which needed a name. One of my friends mentioned an episode of Portlandia with the catchphrase “Put a bird on it.” I thought that would be a perfect name for this hat so here it is!

I was fortunate to reconnect with a good friend from Junior High/High School when I lived in Greece. She has a two and a half year old daughter and I was so thrilled when I found out that of course I had to knit something for her! Bunny Ball is a quick and fun knit that’ll make a great gift. Also great for using up scrap yarn!

Oh the dilemma!!! How to knit in the freezing cold! Wear wristers! I wanted a wrister long enough to keep my arms warm and my fingers free to knit or read. Or eat chocolates. Maritime Chart!

I love knitting with multiple colors and my first foray into Fair Isle was a cardigan knit flat. I didn’t have a clue about steeking so I just assumed that purling with two colors was the norm. This color bought back memories of the ooze from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I figured If I ever got lost in a sewer it’s bright enough to work as a flashlight.
