The Baby Wiglet Blanket was inspired by the news that my friends Mr and Mrs Wigman (aka the Wiggles) were going to be having a baby. Once their wee one arrived he was soon referred to as a baby Wiglet… Hence the patterns name.

I first designed this hat as a present for a wonderful friend of mine. She’s been there for me a lot since the day we met. However the name of this pattern, ‘dreich’ does not correctly describe our friendship. Dreich is one of my favourite Scottish words to describe the weather, roughly translated it means ‘miserable weather’.

One of my favourite things about Scotland is the colours in nature. To me the colours really stand out, but in such a subtle, meaningful way. Living away from Scotland now these socks bring a little bit of home to me.

Coming from the Highlands of Scotland and being a massive wimp when it comes to the cold I feel that you need a rather large snood to keep you warm. Not just one that you wrap around once, but one that you can wrap around two or three times.

The best part for me at Christmas is hanging the decorations and my Christmas stocking. One day I will have a fireplace to hang my Christmas stocking over. But for now, if I cannot have a real fire place I will have a handmade stocking.
