Sigyn is a goddess in Norse mythology, married to the God of Mischief, Loki. Inspired by a vintage bedjacket pattern from 1949 and updated as a modern shrug, it’s stitched in a gorgeous shade of green that will turn heads in Asgard and beyond. This pattern originally appeared in Happily Hooked Magazine in Issue #97, April 2022.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
I created this hat for some craft fairs and sold out every time, so I thought I would write it up into a pattern. I stitched mine in yarn using an alpaca and wool blend, but this pattern also looks great with any chunky/bulky weight yarn. It’s quick to stitch and fun to make. Worked in the round, from the bottom up, it’s a great way to practice...

Crochet: Clutch
Clutch bags are popular to carry and to make. They came roaring into style during World War II and never left. The vintage pattern books of the forties feature many clutch styles and today’s top designers all have signature clutches as part of their accessory lines, with prices soaring to $5000.00 +. This clutch won’t fetch that kind of money b...

The inspiration for many of my designs starts with a swatch of a pattern stitch. One pattern stitch I have always wanted to use, the Wave and Chevron, finally found a home in this design. The play of color and the ripples make it look complicated, but this is a fun project to make. It works with a wide variety of colors from monochrome, muted, ...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
I originally received a shawl similar to this as a gift and unfortunately some moths found it and destroyed it. I loved it so much I decided to design one in crochet for myself.

Crochet: Cloche Hat
There is some debate in fashion circles, but the invention of the cloche hat is attributed to the French milliner Caroline Reboux in 1908. It really took hold with the general female population in the 1920’s and was closely associated with the iconic Flapper, but other women adopted the fashion as well. They could tuck their long hair under the...
Crochet: Purse / Handbag
For some women it’s shoes. For me it’s all about the bag. I love designing and crocheting them. I also love all the attention they garner! The right bag is the perfect compliment to even the most simple and basic of outfits. This design uses single and double crochets to create the undulating pattern. It may seem a little intimidating, but the ...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This pattern has been kicking around in my head for awhile and the yarn and idea finally merged to create this hat. It’s very simple to stitch, it’s all hdcs, but the addition of the lace weight yarn to the dk weight adds a lovely dimension to the design. It also gives it a touch more warmth to ward off any bitter winds. I worked this up in qui...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This pattern was named after one of my favorite artists - Elvis Costello. The sample here was created in Navy and Toffee but this looks great in a whole spectrum of color combinations. Done entirely in hdc stitches it’s a great project for a beginner looking to improve their skills in color work.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat was named after my friend & landlord Chip. I stitched it here in an acrylic/wool blend but it looks great in a variety of yarns and colors.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat was named after one of my dearest friends, Brian. He hates winter and is always looking for things to keep him warm. He also appreciates everything handmade.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat is inspired by the dreamer in all of us. It was created for another project that fell through, but the dream lives on. It looks complicated but is actually quite simple utilizing only 2 stitches to create the colorful textured effect.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat was named after one of my favorite fictional characters.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat was inspired by the amazing Amanda Palmer and her wonderful book “The Art of Asking.” That book changed the way I thought about so many things, most especially my own art. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that I was blind to before her words showed me what was right in front of me.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque

Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This is one of my favorite designs. I wear my hat a lot, especially when I am in creative mode. The pattern stitch gives it a lot of texture. It uses simple stitches so it is great for a beginner. It also works equally well for women & men depending on the color you choose.

This is a cute little clutch that is perfect for a beginner. It is entirely crocheted using half double crochets. The pattern really pops when you add decorative button or brooch. The one I used I got at a yard sale for $2.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat was named after the Blondie song “Heart of Glass”. Feminine and functional it features a lacy look perfect for keeping your hair in place on those breezy autumn/spring days. It’s a hat for when you need a touch of warmth but not a heavier winter hat.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Mrs. Gladwell’s Shawl was named for Joyce Gladwell. Her book, “Brown Face, Big Master” was such an inspiration for me. Even though it was originally published in 1969 it still resonates today. I love it for it’s honesty, courage and insight. This is my version of expressing my appreciation of her work through my talent, crochet design.
Crochet: Cowl
My fur baby is a 10 year-old tuxie who loves yarn as much as I do. His favorite is alpaca. It’s one of mine too. This cowl is stitched in bulky weight alpaca with a K hook. It’s perfect for a beginner who wants to expand his/her repertoire of stitches.
Crochet: Cowl
This pattern uses a bulky weight yarn to create a soft, squishy infinity scarf. The combination of simple stitches is easy enough for a beginner but has a little more depth and complexity than a basic one stitch infinity scarf.

Sometimes, like with the Marcia Shawl, a pattern is inspired by a memory, a place, or a person that is dear to me. I develop a fondness for a certain pattern because I adore the person I created it for. The Marcia Shawl was originally created for one of my closest friends who fought a determined, but ultimately unsuccessful battle with breast c...

Oddly enough the hardest part for me is not coming up with the patterns. The most difficult process for me is coming up with the name for the pattern. How did I finally decide on the title of the new design? I was listening to The Cure as I wrote this post. “Fascination Street” is a great title for a song and for a slouchy hat. Looking for idea...

If there is a gene for creativity there might be one for hockey fanaticism as well. Like my aunt I am a diehard fan of the Boston Bruins. This week’s free pattern is a slouchy hat, Bergy, named for the Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron. If my Aunt Phyllis was still with us she would adore Bergeron, for his skills and conduct on the ice, and his c...

Wonderland Beanie is a nod to the bizarre and nonsensical world created by Lewis Carroll. Wonderland is also the last stop on the blue line, part of the mass transit subway system in Boston. It was once the home of an amusement park and a race track, and it is still the stop for Revere Beach, the first public beach in the United States.
Crochet: Cowl
This pattern is a variation of my “Mollie Infinity Scarf. This one uses DK weight yarn. The lighter weight makes it perfect for fall and spring, or to wear indoors as well as outdoors.
Crochet: Cowl
This is a great, eye-catching infinity scarf done in a DK weight. It works with a variety of different colors. It’s also a wonderful gift and is unisex. Men seem to love this design as much as the gals. I originally designed & made this scarf for a man in dark green and black.

My cloche pattern was named after Lois Long, a writer for The New Yorker magazine during its origins in 1925 until 1968. In the beginning she wrote under the pseudonym “Lipstick” about her daily, and more often nightly, exploits as a flapper in New York City. Her work was immensely popular.

Savin Hill is an ever so slightly slouchy beanie stitched in a chic lace pattern. I wanted a look that was vintage 1920’s but with a contemporary flair. The lace pattern looks more detailed and intricate than it is and adds a lovely feminine touch. This is the perfect accessory for spring or fall in the colder climates and all three seasons in ...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
Alewife is a chic, slightly slouchy beanie. Stitched here in a wool/alpaca blend it is light but warm, and pairs just as well with a parka as a dress coat. It looks more complicated than it is and the front post stitches have the right amount of definition to add but not overcome the style.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
I was looking for a ribbed slouchy hat for a male friend. I didn’t have a lot of time to stitch it up so I was looking for a pattern I could crochet instead of knit. I couldn’t find one so I created Berkley. This is a unisex ribbed slouchy beanie that has become my go to pattern this year as I am stitching for the holidays. A trendy slouchy bea...

Ashmont is a slightly slouchy beanie. It is made using alternating rows of single crochet and V-Stitches. The skills needed are the ability to read a pattern, being able to work in the round and increasing & decreasing. The size can be adjusted by using smaller or larger hooks. The sample was made with Patons Classic Wool in Spring Green.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This is the hat I wore for the majority of last winter. I still love it this year too. A lot of people stop me and ask where I got my hat when I am wearing this one. It’s always so exciting to be able to say I made it myself. Stitching is a wonderful thing…

This pattern uses the crossed double crochet stitch, one of my favorite stitches. It may seem a little awkward at first but it is worth it. Those little Xs are a great design detail. Make sure you take the time to count the stitches on the half double crochet rounds. If you don’t have the 72 stitches the pattern calls for you’ll create headache...

Orlando was my first published design and was named after my cat! It is a great basic super slouchy pattern. Look for a worsted weight yarn that will give the hat a soft drape. Mix it up with colors and you have one that men will wear as well as women.
