I have always been creative, but only started knitting as an outlet for my creativity while recovering from illness, and have never stopped since!
I love to use different stitch patterns and textures in the same garment depending on the properties I want the fabric to have and I like to make stitch patterns flow into one another. I am inspired by interesting techniques and constructions and am always experimenting with ideas for my next design.
I love shawls, hats, fingerless mittens, cowls, reversible stitch patterns (especially cables), interesting fairisle that is easier than it looks and most of all LACE!
My first design was published in the book ‘Coffee Cozies’ (GMC 2009) when I was a runner up in a competition to design a cafetière cosy in ‘Knitting’ magazine (GMC). I then won the Sirdar ‘Design a Summer Knit’ Competition (also run in ‘Knitting’ magazine) and my winning design ‘Waves Beach Dress’ was published in issue 77 of ’Knitting’ magazine in June 2010. Since then I have produced several designs for Artesano, working with both Artesano and Manos Del Uruguay yarns, and my designs have been featured in magazines ‘Let’s Knit!’, ‘Knit Now’ and ‘Knitting’
I also have my own line of handdyed yarns! You can find them at lottieknits.com
