Knitting: Wall Hanging
The latest in my series of knitted bunting features nine striped flags spelling out the word ‘Christmas’ and then eight more plain ones, each with its own festive decoration. Both the letters and decorations are knitted separately and then sewn on to the flags.
Crochet: Scarf
This pretty striped scarf uses a combination of a variegated yarn and the corner to corner crochet technique to produce a colourful, textured scarf that is fun to make.
Knitting: Containers
This little suitcase can be used to hold all sorts of treasures and collections. It’s constructed with five pieces of plastic canvas, all covered with knitting before being sewn together. The finished case measures about 15 cm wide, 10 cm tall and 7 cm deep.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Following on from my adult Ten Stitch Hat, this pattern is for two different sizes of baby hats. They are both knitted in thin, 4 ply yarn, using 2.75 mm / US size 2 needles.
Knitting: Bag - Other
These little bags were designed by my late Mother Ann. They are knitted in the round in one piece and lined with fabric. Mum always knitted hers with DK weight yarn but I have made three different sizes from the basic pattern using aran weight yarn, DK and thin 4 ply.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This is my original pattern for a basic pair of socks which I have been knitting for years. They are sized to fit UK shoe sizes 5 - 6 but are easily adjustable for different sizes.
Knitting: Drawstring Bag
These little flower pouches come in three sizes and are useful for holding all sorts of things. Each pouch is knitted flat in four garter stitch pieces which are then sewn together. Drawstrings pull them closed.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This simple hat is based on my Ten Stitch Twist pattern and is worked in a spiral from the top down. You never have more than ten stitches on your needles and it is knitted in garter stitch throughout.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This colourful shawl is worked from the top down in single stripes of one plain and one variegated yarn. There is no need to cut the yarn after each row as two rows are worked in one direction before turning the work.
Knitting: Scarf
Twister is a long thin scarf with a natural curl which can be worn on its own to brighten up your outfit or you can knit two in different colours and twist them together for even more colour and warmth.
Knitting: Animal Toy
These little donkeys are knitted with Shetland wool and can be made in two sizes just by changing the weight of yarn used. The bigger donkey is knitted with DK weight yarn and 3 mm needles and measures about 10 cm / 4” from nose to tail. For a smaller donkey (7.5 cm / 3”) use Shetland Spindrift yarn and 2 mm needles. Knitting: Wreath
This little knitted wreath takes its inspiration from some of the festive food and drink that I associate with Christmas. The core is a 20 cm / 8” flat backed polystyrene ring, covered with knitted strips to give a base to sew the decorations to.
Crochet: Drawstring Bag
This drawstring crochet bag was designed to hold the 24 balls of yarn for my Advent Chain pattern but it could also be used as a gift bag on its own. It’s a good size for a project bag too, being about 23 cm / 9” tall (measured up to the drawstring).
Crochet: Hanging Ornament
This is a fun project for a little bit of daily crochet in the run up to Christmas - 24 little balls of colourful yarn to turn into simple, buttoned chains. Join them together to give you a more lasting version of the traditional paper chain.
Knitting: Wristlet
Based on a traditional Japanese design, this knitted knot bag has one long handle and one short. Thread the long handle through the short and wear it on your wrist. Use it to carry a few essentials when out and about or as a small project bag. It would make a handy gift bag too.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This top down crochet shawl has a wingspan of 147 cm and a depth of 81 cm - that’s 58 x 32” - and it uses one 220g ball of Scheepjes Whirl. The colour I chose is called Rosewater Cocktail but there are lots of over lovely shades to choose from.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
This little cottage doubles up as a box and is an exciting project to work on. The pattern is long but the knitting is straightforward and only simple embroidery stitches are used to add the embroidered details. Photographs are included at every step to help you create your own beautiful cottage.
Knitting: Scarf
My scarf uses all 92 solid colours of Stylecraft Special DK yarn, hence the name. It is worked in the round so that you don’t have to darn in all those ends and each stripe only uses a small amount of yarn.
Knitting: Craft - Other
These little cases hold the things I need to hand whenever I’m knitting - a ruler / needle gauge, a pair of snips and a couple of chenille needles.
Crochet: Bag - Other
These little crochet bags are a fun make and a good opportunity to play with colours. They are about 5 cm², just the right size to hold a little gift or, of course, some essential craft supplies.
Knitting: Containers
These little purses are very tactile, full of colour and fun to knit. Made up of one rectangle, they come together with very little sewing and don’t need lining or a zip.
Knitting: Scarf
This is a quick scarf to knit, being worked on big needles and featuring an openwork pattern that grows quickly. It uses well under one ball of yarn and can be decorated with buttons.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
This parade of rainbow coloured gnomes is a fun addition to your Christmas decorations or you could just knit one for a quick gift.

Knitting: Wreath
This is the second in a series of six patterns for a decorated Christmas Wreath, published gradually in December 2022.
Crochet: Throw
This pattern uses the mosaic crochet technique and lots of bright colours to make a blanket that really does look like stained glass. The squares are much simpler to work than they look and detailed instructions, with photos, are provided for each round.
Knitting: Wreath
This knitted wreath is a variation on my Woodland Wreath pattern but with a much more festive feel. I have adapted the original sets of leaves to make them more appropriate for mid winter and there are other decorations in keeping with the season.
Knitting: Wall Hanging
This Autumn Bunting consists of eleven knitted flags which can be hung separately or together. Six of them are striped in a slip stitch pattern and have knitted letters sewn on to them, spelling out the word ‘Autumn’. I have included instructions for the extra letters needed if you want your bunting to say ‘Fall’ instead.
Knitting: Bag - Other
These little pouches are knitted with short lengths of leftover yarn, knotted together to make a multi-coloured ball. They are lined with fabric to hide the knots and the pattern includes instructions for three different sizes of pouch.
Knitting: Containers
Take one 100g ball of chunky yarn, oddments of DK in various colours and some plastic canvas and you can make a collection of six different sized pots.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf uses two shades of Bramble DK yarn which is a self-striping yarn with a long colour run. One 100g ball of each colour will be enough to knit a long, joined scarf (or you can leave it unjoined if you prefer).
Knitting: Wall Hanging
With its bright pastel colours, this pretty bunting will liven up any room. The complete string of eleven knitted flags spells out ‘Spring’ but there are also flowers and creatures to mark the new season.
Knitting: Coffee / Tea Pot
This is a pattern for three sizes of tea cosy, all worked in a twisted cable pattern which you don’t need a cable needle to work.
Knitting: Cowl
This is a quick and easy knit where the yarn does all the work, giving you a colourful, textured cowl that looks harder to knit than it actually is.
Knitting: Mittens
These are not your normal mittens. They are knitted to a tight tension, using a slip stitch pattern that eats up the yarn - you’ll need more than 80g of DK weight yarn per pair - but the resulting fabric is thick and warm and really keeps out the cold.
Knitting: Wall Hanging
There’s always room for just one more Christmas Tree in your festive decorations, especially a small one like this.
Knitting: Containers
These five round nesting boxes range in size from 8 - 14 cm diameter. (3 - 5½“). They are stiffened with plastic canvas and knitted in a lightly textured slip stitch pattern.
Crochet: Hanging Ornament
These little stockings are about 10 cm / 4” tall, just the right size to hold a chocolate or two. Hang them on the tree or attach them to presents; each one only takes about 10g of thin, 4 ply yarn and they can be decorated with embroidery or beads and buttons.
Knitting: Drawstring Bag
Knitted in the round, this drawstring project bag uses small amounts of twelve colours of yarn and a slip stitch pattern to give you a finished bag that is both pretty and practical.
Knitting: Wall Hanging
This multi-coloured wall hanging uses my colour pop technique to give three dimensional rolls of colour that add a bright and modern touch to any room.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This is a very easy blanket to knit as it’s just simple, garter stitch squares. It’s only when you sew the squares together that it turns into … oblongs.
Knitting: Scarf
This is a light and airy scarf with a pretty rippling pattern that looks equally good, if different, on the ‘wrong’ side.
Knitting: Pin Cushion
This pincushion has a lined pocket to hold scissors or a packet of needles and is worked in a mixture of textured stitches, making it fun to knit.
Knitting: Containers
This pattern is for a set of five square nesting boxes, ranging in size from 6.5 - 11.5 cm² (2½ - 4½“²). They are stiffened with plastic canvas and worked in an attractive slipped rib pattern that is simple to knit.

Crochet: Baby Blanket
This pretty blanket is worked in v stitch using one plain colour and one variegated to give a lovely striped effect. The use of my lazy crochet technique means that single stripes can be worked in each of the two yarns without having to cut them and darn in all those ends.
Crochet: Scarf
This brightly coloured scarf is worked in v stitch and is quick to make. With the use of my lazy crochet technique and a colour changing yarn for the contrast, the colour can be changed every row without having to cut the yarn.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
The squares that make up this blanket are knitted in K1, P1 rib, working in the round. This gives a warm fabric with some nice visual texture.
Crochet: Throw
Primrose Garden is a textured blanket made up of squares and long hexagons which, when sewn together, make it look as if the squares lie on top of the blanket.
Knitting: Cowl
This is a really warm cowl, worked in a garter stitch slipped stitch pattern which makes it extra thick. I used 90g of a chunky weight yarn but you could easily substitute other weights of yarn.
Knitting: Washcloth / Dishcloth
Using the same twisted stitch pattern as my Odd Stitch Cowl, these cloths can be knitted with any weight of cotton yarn. I used about 35g of DK weight cotton for each of mine which are about 20 cm² .
Knitting: Cowl
This cowl can be knitted in any weight yarn, although solid colours show the stitch pattern better than variegated ones. I used about 55g of a DK weight yarn for mine which measures 20 cm wide / deep and about 46 cm all round.
Knitting: Mittens
Padded mittens are extra warm, owing to the slip stitch pattern used. By changing the weight of the yarn and the needles used, three sizes of mittens can be knitted from the same instructions. The small size takes 25 of thin, 4 ply yarn, the medium size 50g of DK weight and the large 75g of aran yarn. Measurements for all three sizes are given ...
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
Woven Stars are very quick to knit and use less than 5 g of DK weight yarn all together. They are made up of two triangles, knitted flat and then woven together.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf is knitted with a simple, two row slip stitch rib pattern to give a deep fluted finish. You will need about 200g of aran weight yarn. The pattern can easily be adapted to suit other yarn weights too.
Knitting: Scarf
Knitting a scarf that illustrates the rate of global warming is an excellent way to get the climate emergency message across.
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
Knit a rainbow to spread the message of hope. Designed to make use of stash yarn, this rainbow can be knitted in any combination of colours or shades of one colour if that’s what you have. I didn’t have much red yarn so my rainbow is upside down. Scrappy rainbows are good.
Knitting: Tablecloth
The seven brightly coloured stars in this design glow against the darker background. My finished hexagon is about 96 cm across at its widest point just the right size to use it on a table. You could use thicker yarn or knit more stars to make a blanket. For my project, I used 250g of the star colour and 200g of the background one.
Knitting: Scarf
Knitted using the brioche or double knitting technique, this scarf has two layers, each worked in a different colour and it’s very warm.
Knitting: Toys and Hobbies - Other

Whirligig is a light, garter stitch wrap, knitted sideways. It curves round into a circle as you knit and the two ends curl together when the wrap is worn. The outside edge is decorated with a tiny zigzag and the finished wrap is reversible.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
Inspired by Victorian needlework boxes, there is lots to see on the outside of this knitted Christmas House. Lift the roof off and the walls collapse to reveal a decorated Christmas tree standing inside. The insides of the walls are filled with 24 little pockets so it can also be used as an Advent Calendar. The finished house stands 20 cm / 8” ...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
A partner to my ‘Great Granny’ blanket pattern, this shawl is half a big Granny Square, making a triangle. It’s worked with shades of red, pink and brown but you could substitute your own colours. It’s a great pattern for using up your stash and is very simple to crochet.
Crochet: Bedspread
This blanket is one big Granny Square which stays square, however many rounds you add. It’s worked with ten bright pastel shades of yarn plus cream to accent the colours. It is finished off with a linen stitch border.

Crochet: Decorative - Other
This rainbow mandala measures about 23 cm across and uses between 35 and 40g of DK weight cotton. I used small amounts of ten different colours; by using fewer or different colours you would get equally exciting results. This is a great pattern for playing with colour.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This star shaped blanket is knitted in strips, each one only ten stitches wide. The strips are joined to the blanket as you go so there’s no sewing up to do.
Knitting: Craft - Other
This is a bright and colourful chatelaine to clip all your essential tools to. Wear one of these and everything you need will always be close to hand. The yarn is a variegated chunky and you need less than 50 g. The tools are attached with jump rings and swivel clips so they can be taken on and off easily.

Knitting: Component (stitch, edge) - Other
This is not a full pattern but a suggestion for an ongoing project to record a year in your knitting or crochet life. The idea is to work a patchwork of yarn, with each patch representing a different project and using the same yarn (so this is a very cheap project).

These small crochet baskets range in height from 8 - 15 cm (not counting the handles) and can all be made from the same pattern, just by changing the yarn and hook used.
Knitting: Throw, Baby Blanket
This addition to my family of Ten Stitch patterns features a simple cable pattern and is worked in a single colour to highlight the texture.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
This is the introduction to a series of patterns for a knitted box, shaped like a book, which opens to reveal a detailed Christmas scene.
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
These 24 knitted stars each have a knitted button with a number on so they can be used as an Advent Calendar. Hang one up each day in December and you’ll have a beautiful display by Christmas.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Although crocheted with thin yarn, these triangles are full of texture. When sewn together they become three dimensional shapes, resulting in a lovely warm shawl.
Knitting: Purse / Handbag
These small purses are made up of four triangles which, when folded, turn into a pocket that opens from either side. They can be knitted in any size, use up small amounts of yarn and are quick to make.
Knitting: Cowl
This short scarf which buttons up to be worn as a cowl is made up of 500 little knitted ‘O’s or hugs. These are pretend cable stitches, worked without a cable needle. Knitted with a soft yarn and in beautiful colours, this is the ideal pattern for wrapping someone in hugs.
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
Another knitted wreath to join my Woodland and Springtime Wreaths. This one is decorated with images from the seaside - bunting, beach huts, shells and a little boat. This wreath is knitted in nautical shades of red, white and blue but it would be just as good in pastel colours.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This is a circular shawl with each of the twelve panels knitted in a shade from the colour wheel. It is about 48 cm / 19” deep and is knitted in a simple stitch pattern with strips of eyelets separated by garter stitch.
Knitting: Ball
This is a fun little project that uses up scraps of yarn and lets you play with colour at the same time.
Knitting: Electronics Cozy
The stitch pattern for this gadget cover is beautifully textured - almost like smocking. It is based on garter stitch so is easy to knit and makes good use of variegated yarn.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Overlapping shells in the colours of the sea make up this light and airy shawl. The shells are knitted sideways in garter stitch and shaped with short rows. The finished shawl is about 50 cm deep and 132 cm wide (20 x 52”) and uses 200 g of Crazy Zauberball.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The shape of this shawl is taken from Elizabeth Zimmermann’s garter stitch pelerine in her book ‘Knitting Workshop’, a pattern which has always intrigued me. While hers is knitted in one piece from the neck down, mine is made up of a patchwork of small squares. It’s like a blanket you can wear.
Knitting: Cozy - Other
These hand warmers measure about 10 cm² and can be heated in a microwave. Only the removable covers are knitted, the bags inside are made with fabric and filled with rice or other grains.

Knitting: Craft - Other
This little case holds the two essentials when out and about with your knitting - scissors and needles. It rolls up so it doesn’t take up much space but is still easy to find in your bag.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf is as much fun to knit as it is to wear. The bright, three-dimensional rolls of colour add warmth, as well well as being a good way of using up leftover yarn.
Knitting: Mittens
Patterns for trigger mittens with a separate forefinger can be found in wartime knitting books. Originally intended to wear while shooting, I find the’re also useful if you use a walking stick with a flat handle; these are held with the forefinger in front of the stick and the other three behind and that finger can get very cold!
Knitting: Wall Hanging
The two penguins on this wall hanging are knitted separately and then sewn to the background. The quilt itself is made up of a patchwork of garter stitch squares knitted with oddments of DK weight yarn.

Knitting: Christmas Stocking
This small stocking is just the right size to hold a few bits and pieces; it’s a good way to dress up a modest gift. When knitted with DK weight yarn it’s about 15 cm / 6” tall; using thinner, 4 ply yarn gives a stocking roughly 13 cm / 5” tall. You will need less than 20g of yarn for the DK version and 10g for the 4 ply one.
Knitting: Bag - Other
This little bag measures about 15 × 17 cm (6 × 6½“). It’s big enough to hold either one or two sets of mini decorations for the Needle Tree. The bag fastens with three buttons so that the decorations can be put away safely for next year.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
This knitted Christmas tree stands about 36 cm / 14” tall and has adjustable branches. Lay them flat for storage and open them out when it’s time to decorate the tree.

These lace squares were inspired by a Victorian pattern first published in 1891. They are knitted diagonally and are a simple combination of garter stitch and eyelets.
