One of the ladies in my knitting group wanted to knit a simple shawl, and after looking at several patterns we decided a basic asymmetric shawl would be the best option. This cowl is a companion piece to the Cabled Trellis Hat. It’s a quick knit that takes a single skein of worsted yarn (100 gr). Perfect for that one skein you have left from the sweater you just finished.

This hat has a simple latticework/trellis cable around the body that flows from the ribbed brim. It’s then finished with a closed cable that mimics the top of a picket fence, and a swirled decrease top, with variations on the style of decrease.

I love cables. I love the way they create textured shapes, and can be used either all over something, or just as a small motif accent.
