This tunic-length sweater features a striking cable panel and set-in sleeves for a sleek and tailored look. The pattern covers ten sizes from a 32” to a 50” bust with a classic style to suit all body shapes. The Catkin sweater is worked seamlessly in the round, from the bottom up, and the sleeves are then set in, using short rows, from the top down. Instructions are also included in this pattern booklet for the simple, slouchy Catkin Hat, which will knit up quickly over the course of an evening or two, and will allow you to test your gauge and to familarise yourself with the cable pattern before embarking on the sweater.

This hat is the 101st pattern for hand-knitting that I have designed and published. It is a sampler of many things I enjoy about making stranded hats: simple two-colour knitting, small interconnected motifs, centred double decreases, a pleasing crown pattern and an accommodating shape that can be blocked into a tam. I hope you enjoy it.

This hat was inspired by John Clappison’s ‘onion’ cruet design for Hornsea Pottery (1963). Combining colourwork and cables, it is also a fun knit. During the design process, onion became fun-ion, which in turn morphed into fun-yin (which translates from Scots as one-that-is-fun, or that-fun-thing). I hope you have fun knitting yourself a Funyin!

This cosy hat, with a graphic crown and an optional pompom, is based on the same chart as my Epistrophy yoke (hence Epistrop-heid).

These graphic mittens are worked at a tight gauge to create a cosy, windproof fabric. They feature an inset thumb and a neat i-cord finish to the cuff. They use the same graphic colourwork pattern as my Epistrophy cardigan and Epistropheid hat designs.
Knitting: Bracelet
Oobit is a wonderful Scots word meaning “big, hairy caterpillar” - a creature which these felted bracelets somewhat resemble. “Oo” is also the Shetland term for wool, and the bracelet is designed to make use of bits of oo … hence, an oo-bit! Oobit also recalls orbit, suggesting something circular or revolving - so all told, Oobit really is the ...

In Scots, a whigmaleerie is: “a decorative or fanciful object, a piece of ornamentation …a knick-knack, gew-gaw, bauble, fantastic contrivance, or contraption.” (Dictionary of the Scots Language). In other words, a whigmaleerie is a wee thingumajig, of the kind folk often like to hang on trees at this festive time of year. Why not whip up sever...

Baffies is the Scots word for house slippers, and these two-colour baffies have a neat and nifty construction. Choose between a plain or stranded version, both of which are quick and peculiarly addictive to knit. Will one pair be enough?

This stranded colourwork infinity scarf was inspired by old-fashioned woven gingham. Knit in the round, and then grafted to form a loop, the scarf showcases a simple gridded check that is most often used as a background or filler to more complex colourwork designs, but which I think looks lovely on its own.

In Scots, “muckle” is an emphatic expression meaning much, or large, and this cosy colourwork skater’s muff is “muckle” in these senses.
